SUBMITTING ARTWORK

For Your Information

Ensure your files print the way you want

Please use the following guide if you are submitting your own artwork or your own documents for print.

Things to consider

  • In all cases, a pdf document is the ideal format for us to receive. Files from applications such as microsoft word, powerpoint, and publisher can be converted to pdf format in different ways.
  • When submitting word, powerpoint, or other files, we prefer the document to be assembled into one document.
  • Include all linked and embedded files.
  • Use CMYK colour space.
  • Convert all text to paths.
  • Images from websites do not produce print quality results Output will be “pixelated” and grainy.
  • Artwork that does not comply with the above standards or is not of sufficient quality will be subject to art charges and, even then, that it may result in unpredictable output.

Resolution issues

PPI (pixels per inch) is a measurement unit used to express the resolution of photographic images stored in a bitmap format such as TIFF or JPEG. An image saved at 300 ppi has a resolution of 300 pixels per inch.

Image resolution is often mistakenly expressed as “dpi” (dots per inch) instead of ppi. A 300 dpi image means the same thing as a 300 ppi image. In fact, dpi refers to something completely different: the resolution at which images and files are printed. For example, a laser records images to film or plate at a resolution of 2400 dpi (dots per inch) or more. To refer to image resolution as dpi is one of those mistakes that is so commonplace it has become accepted in the graphics and printing world.

This is a 300 ppi image:

This is the same image at 72 ppi. With fewer pixels to draw the image, it looks "fuzzy" and "bitmapped":
